Sunrise to Sunset Magic: A & R’s Moab Adventure Bridal Photoshoot

Some couples book a wedding photographer for the big day and call it good. But Alex and Rich wanted something a little different. They didn't want the typical "stand here and smile" bridal photos - they wanted something that captured who they really are: adventurous, spontaneous, and madly in love.

After celebrating their wedding with family and friends in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, their honeymoon was taking them to Moab. When they reached out to me, they had a simple request: could we create something special in the desert landscape they'd fallen for? After chatting about locations for their Bridal Adventure Photoshoot, we faced the classic Moab dilemma—sunrise or sunset?

Their solution was refreshingly straightforward: "Let's do both."

Two locations. Two outfits. Two golden-hour sessions. A full-day Moab elopement-style adventure.

And honestly? It was perfect.

Sunrise at Shafer Trail Overlook – A Quiet, Intimate Beginning

We met before dawn at Shafer Trail Overlook, a breathtaking viewpoint perched over the winding switchbacks of Canyonlands National Park. The sky was still dark, speckled with stars, and Rich was already outside their car, taking in the vast stillness of the desert night.

As the first light touched the La Sal Mountains, you could feel their excitement—that newlywed energy still buzzing between them.

Alex wore a simple off-shoulder lace dress with a small bouquet, while Rich kept it classic in beige slacks and suspenders. It was effortless, elegant, and perfect for the soft desert morning. Nothing fussy or overproduced—just them, being themselves as the sky transformed into ribbons of pink and orange.

There was no direction needed. They moved naturally through the landscape, laughing, twirling, and exploring as the desert woke up around them. This wasn't about creating perfect poses; it was about experiencing this magical sunrise together, as I captured their perfect moments with my lens.

Sunset at Corona Arch – Bold, Playful, and Adventurous

After a much-needed midday break (pre-dawn wake-up calls can be brutal), we regrouped for round two—a sunset hike to Corona Arch.

Corona Arch is one of Moab’s most iconic arches, standing tall and free on public land, unencumbered by crowds or restrictions. The 45-minute hike to the arch is an adventure in itself—winding through slickrock, crossing a small cable section, and finally opening up to the massive sandstone formation.

Nature decided to add some drama, sending clouds rolling in as we started our hike. Most couples would have panicked at the threat of rain, but Alex and Rich embraced the wildness of it all, laughing as the storm passed. By the time we reached the arch, the sky had cleared into the most epic, moody desert backdrop you could ask for.

For this session, Alex switched up her look, trading her delicate white dress for a bold red gown that absolutely popped against the muted tones of the desert. Rich changed into black slacks, black suspenders, and a crisp white button-up, adding a sophisticated, old-school charm to the adventure.

We explored, played, and captured them just being them—adventurous, playful, and totally in love.

What Made This Session So Special

This wasn’t just a photoshoot—it was a celebration of who Alex and Rich are together.

What made this day special wasn't fancy equipment or elaborate setups. It was Alex and Rich's willingness to embrace the full experience—the early alarm, the hiking, the weather shifts, all of it—with laughter, love, and genuine enthusiasm.

They didn’t just want pretty pictures; they wanted to capture the feeling of starting this new chapter together, in a place that spoke to their adventurous souls. They understood something important: the best photos happen when you're fully present, enjoying each other and the landscape rather than focusing on the camera.

And that’s exactly what makes these kinds of sessions so magical.
